Standoff

(Drums: Ethan Place, Electric Solo written by Chase Macri, played by John Brittingham)

Odd Instruments: high-strung (Nashville) acoustic, reed organ, tambourine.

There was a standoff in the street today
There was a misunderstanding in the square
There was a crowd that gathered to see a big parade
There were the obligatory sirens and confetti
Brass band, and lemonade.

Those who been through it won’t tell you
There’s mental shrapnel in their minds
Was it the bullet or the novel they wrote that no one read?
They wore the colors of freedom
Blue like blood and red like their eyes
And white ideals, white truth, little white lies

There was a misunderstanding
There was a standoff in the street today
There was a misunderstanding in the square

Greenville is a small town. They have a "square." I was not familiar with the concept of a square until I got to the 'ville. Anyway, this song is pretty much about the glorification of war. I'm speaking of things I don't know firsthand, but I have read the books written by those that have been there, and it seems that there is a disconnect between a memorial day parade and the lost generation of writers. So there's this standoff.
