An actual song, not like last weeks. A simple one, a short one. Has no real chorus, and in that way is like a lot of the songs off of “Shortest Distance…” So that’s kinda funny, but I think it’s pretty good. Some keys and bass would be nice on this one.

More “simple” and “short” ones like this. I like.
if you haven’t already you should listen to andrew bird’s new album. there’s something of a sonic continuity between some of the things that he does and the way this song plays out. i think it’s beautiful and sad but mostly beautiful. some strings and some piano would be nice. maybe a few more harmonies but from different people to add variation to the whole sound. maybe a female voice? i really like the way that sorento sounds on here too. i’d keep it.
I agree, this song is beautiful and sad, but mostly beautiful (although, I do think the most shocking beauty is found within tragedy. That can be taken a few ways too.)
I definitely agree that there should be strings added by the 2nd or 3rd stanza. You know how to build instruments, so I don’t need to tell you how. Piano could be nice, it could be distracting if it’s too much. Maybe some blocked out chords, and try to come up with a good bass line in the lower register ’cause we’re missing the lower freq’s.
I think you should Rufus Wainwright the shit out of this song, harmony-wise. The last line of this song is completely devastating.
I had an interesting idea if an album was loosely themed around this song. Make three versions, this one being the first. The second being where the singer is knee deep in the shittiest shit he’s ever been in, and the last one being when him and the girl get back together. Huh, huh? Sound like a winner? Haha, maybe the three versions is a good idea though…
