This week’s entry is called “Drive.” I did it real quick but I like it a lot. I was really having a hard time with this Flash thing I’m trying to do for my site, and I was so off that I almost forgot to do a song today!!! arr!!!! So I had to come up with something REALLLLL quick.

This one’s a keeper
i liked it because it was gentle and everything seemed in proportion and your voice fit in really well.
I liked it as well, though for me the vocals from about 50-60 sec was a little tough to hear. I could be going deaf though. Plus Veggie Tales Jonah is on. I really liked where it built up a bit (around 2:05-15ish?)
Where’s chase on this one? John? Everyone?

yeah…i love this one. it’s great and wide open to add really cool ambient stuff. i love the vocal part on the verse when you sing “whirring machine”. it’s perfect. at the last couple of choruses i’d use choir of people. i’d also add some lyrics to it. keep the chorus because i think it works really well with the feel of the song.
take down the drum level (they’ll need to be real anyway) and bring up the keys and pads in the beginning. speaking of keys…you need a super verbed up and delayed a bit piano part. maybe 3 notes but something that will be a good accent.
and it needs some nice high electric parts…meeblies as you would say. but not blues meebles…some nice edge-esque meebles.
this song is a keeper. i think that you almost have a good ep on your hands if you do this one, worlds unknown, not yourself, and that one that we played with caitlin on the steps of hogue hall and then maybe one more. it just hasn’t been written yet.

You’re right though. I do like this one. I like the chorus a lot, like John, the “whirring machine” part is very good. I had the same thought as John as far as the lyrics go, more. Maybe the second time you do the chorus, you could add another 4 lines. I like the literary wit and irony in the first and last stanza very much. But I don’t like the lame let’s haphazardly strum the final chord like half the songs on my last album ending, I think it should end strong or maybe have everything save the vocal fade out or something.
John is right that you may have an ep of good songs soon, but I disagree with the putting out of an ep unless its all themed in one style or maybe the lyrics tell a story or something. Like you could produce all these songs with a musical “space” theme like Worlds Unknown or tell a story about some newlyweds…
Anyways.
I was late because I had a lot to do yesterday and didn’t have enough time to seriously listen to the song a couple times. Sorry. I’ve spoiled you…
i think this one might be my favorite. This or Nostalgia. A balance which could be upset by Worlds Unknown, depending on how rocking it could get with a live band.
Yeah, its short and the end repeats. Needs more. I’m thinking adding a bridge would be nice. Nothing too different, just a 3rd part.
Piano would be good. Not sure I want to do an EP. Not sure what I want to do at all actually. Work in a studio and try to pitch songs I guess… I suppose I should try to get a publishing deal. Is that what I want? Not sure. EP’s might be nice though – whatever I do next will be cheap (packaging-wise) and cheap (price-wise, maybe free). I never make any dough on cds anyway, and the price just prevents more “casual fans” from hearing my music. And an entire space-themed album might be a bit too… fantasy… for me. I dig the sci fi. like the 1950′s. Not the fanatasy. Not like tolkien.
yeah chase, lots of bass – but you also made a comment about that one normals song that I think kinda has a similar feel in my car on time that made me think you’d like this. As far as the ending… I’m not a fan of the haphazard strum either, really. Its just easiest to do while demoing. And I don’t really like fade outs. its kinda wanker-y if not done right or overdone. I’ll work on it if and when this gets reworked. Everything save the vocal fading might be neet though…..

Chase? John? What the hell? Am I not important enough to comment on your songs anymore? I see how it is… just because they spoil you. I did like that John mentioned “meeblies”… no comments on the song from me this week. You don’t get ‘em. Not a single one.

holy drum machine batman! sounds like machina (or machina II), but thats just production time.
i dig this one. I think i’d like it more if you took it, and gradually worked it towards a bit of a knights of cydonia feel towards the end, and did a sort of long drawm out really-fucking-cool outro in a mars volta sort of sense.
I do dig the catchy/simple bass line, well, because its catchy and simple… like a bass line should be!
