Welcome to number SIX, baybee. This one’s kinda neat. Vocals were hard for me this time and I need to stop ignoring my wife, so sorry if they make you ears bleed. You have been warned. There’s a sorta cool quasi-mystery instrument in here. Shouldn’t be too hard to hear, but if you’re not really paying attention you might miss it.
More Everyday
(C) 2007 Matthew Good
You won’t believe
what I can see
from my closet
in Tennessee
The naked eye
like a knife
can divide
wrong from right
My friends confide
their desires
Secrets and lies
burning fires
Their eyes betray
what words don’t say
divulging more
everyday
People think
they aren’t giving away anything -
People say
more everyday.
People think,
never do anything.
People say
more everyday.
Nervous smiles
turnstiles
rank-and-file
lifestyles
I can read
what you won’t concede
You can tell me
anything.
People think
they aren’t giving away anything -
People say
more everyday.
People think,
never do anything.
People say
more everyday.
And I can’t help
I’m too far away
i can’t help
I’m too far away
You won’t believe
What I can see
So stop the world
Getting dizzy
You won’t believe
the things I’ve seen,
broken hearts
and darker things.

There you have it! I was trying a new thing, trying to get a song going before I bring in the main chordal instrument (guitar or piano, usually). It’s not something I normally do. I also tried to “play” the noise a lot more on this song. Hard with only three pedals though. Any real version of this song would be awash in matt good violins, I think. Reverb out the wazzoo, but not before it’s thrown though a quarter-note delay and fed back for a while.

I already told you I liked it. You have my comments, nice work.
i like it.
but i don’t really have any thoughts.
i like how the lyrics end.
In the name of okay go… here she goes again:
Blarg:
Intro, fucking kiler, dig it. I like the vocals. The timing/delivery of the first two sets of vocals don’t do what i expected/wanted. i kinda got the feeling that i was listening to your variation of someone elses song.. if that makes sense.
Countin bodies like sheep to the rhythm of the war drums…
So impressed with all you do, tried so hard to be like you, flew too high it burnt the wings, lost my faith in everything.
The ‘drums’ in the background made those two songs enter my head. And holy cow on the layering of the sounds… they blend so well that i didn’t even notice how many there were… ‘Closer’ style.
This song has a very Nine Inch Nails feel to it… it sounds nothing like him, but the structuring is reminiscent, especially the afore-quoted song (somewhat damaged).
The intro and outro are great, and you always do a killer job on those parts. Keep this in mind maybe though: If you are looking to make singles, awesome. If you are writing songs to put on an album though, even a totally song based album, where would it fit in the flow? Too many killer intros/outros really put a damper on the total experience, because it cuts off too many times. My favorite albums are the ones i have to force myself to turn off mid-song because there isn’t any explicit hard break of music, its all one story/feeling/you get the idea.
this will be on my next mix CD, and that is a guarantee.
I don’t know what to say. You think I don’t like your songs… but of course I do. I was a little on the depressed side of life when I listened to this for the first time… so maybe it was me, but it felt a little loooooooonnngggggg. Don’t get me wrong. I really like the song, and I’d probably like it better with more production, but it seemed to be a little too drawn out for my taste. But what do I know? I’m going to get Alzheimer’s because I’m so damn lonely…………………. and, scene.
haha, katie, you’re not scene at all… maybe emo at the moment of the post, but not scene.
I don’t have too many comments at the moment, other than to say I liked the song.
But I’m intrigued by the mystery instrument. Is it a percussion instrument?
The mystery instrument is awesome.
