Overheard in the Vicinity of My Cubicle

Overheard in the Vicinity of My Cubicle, this 30th of January, 2007 the year of our Lord:
“Hi, do you work on the Internets?”
The speaker of said atrocity noted that she, in fact, worked on the IntrAnets. And needed a copy machine. And apparently needed one of us Internets gurus to help her with it. Funny.

I have also heard such things at work! Could you believe the IT head of software told my officemate the following: “Now that they have 64-bit XP, there is no need for Solaris/Unix/Linux”
This is the same guy that I got into an argument with over why Open Source would never be on ANY computer at work. He said its open, so its easy for someone to slip in a backdoor. HELLO! Its open, so lots of people will see the darn thing. People also can’t go willy nilly altering projects source code either. Sheesh.

Yeah… As if a hacker can download the source code to an open source app, make some changes, and then they are MAGICALLY applied to all computers everywhere that are using that app… even if they’re not connected to the internet. Hahaha…
